Once you've been granted access to Dovetail, you can get started on setting up your new podcast! Please follow the instructions below and contact out support team at podcast-services@prx.org if you have any questions.
⚡ Protip: We recommend you check out "Getting to Know id.prx.org" before you start setting up your feed on Dovetail⚡
Step 1 - Log into Dovetail at id.prx.org. Under My PRX Access, click on Dovetail Podcasts.
Step 2 - On the upper right-hand corner, click the big ‘ol green button labeled +New Podcast.
Step 3- Once you click on +New Podcast, you’ll be guided to the Settings > Metadata tab. Once there, add your title, teaser, and podcast description.
⚡Protip: There is a 4000 character limit for your podcast description.⚡
Step 4 - Add the details for your podcast. Podcast apps require all fields with an asterisk (*) to submit your feed.

Owner | This is your group account. Do not move the show, or everyone in your group account will lose access. |
Explicit |
Explicit: Your podcast contains content not suitable for children. Clean: Your podcast doesn’t contain explicit or adult content. You can overwrite this field on a per-episode basis, but you’ll need to choose a label for your entire podcast. |
Category | Select the category that best describes your podcast. For more information on categories, check out Apple’s guide to podcast categories. |
Sub-category | Select the sub-category that best describes your podcast. For more information on categories, check out Apple’s guide to podcast categories. |
Podcast Type |
Episodic: Episode to be represented and recommended last to first; this is the default and more common order for podcasts. Serial: Episodes recommended and present first to last. |
Language | Primary language spoken on your podcast. |
Feed Owner Name | Name of the producer or organization. |
Feed Owner Email | Email of the producer or organization. Please note that all verification codes from podcast apps when submitting or claiming your podcast will be sent to this email. |
Author Name | Name of the producer or organization. This information is public-facing. |
Author Email | Email of the producer or organization. This information is public-facing. |
Managing Editor Name | Name of your managing editor. This information is not required or public-facing. |
Managing Editor Email | Email of your managing editor. This information is not required or public-facing. |

Step 5 - Under Profile Image, upload or drag your podcast image
When uploading your logo, please note that Apple Podcasts requires images that meet the following:
Minimum size of 1400 x 1400 pixels and a maximum size of 3000 x 3000 pixels, 72 dpi, in JPEG or PNG format with appropriate file extensions (.jpg, .png), and in the RGB colorspace. To optimize images for mobile devices, Apple recommends compressing your image files.
⚡Protip: If you would like Apple Podcasts to feature your podcast, it must be 3000 x 3000 pixels.⚡
Step 6 - Check the Distribution section on the right side of the page
💥Your Feed Link is your podcast RSS URL. You will submit this to podcast apps!💥
- Click on theicon to open your RSS URL in your browser (this will display XML code….this is normal, we promise).
- Under Homepage Link, leave the autogenerated link as is or replace it with your website link.
Step 7 - Under Podcast Status, click Save.
Step 8 - Click on the Engagement Settings tab to the left.
Step 9 - Under Donation Form, add the link to your donation URL.
Step 10 - Under Micropayments add your wallet. You can find more information about micropayments at this link
Step 11 - After you have added your information, click Save.
If you do not have a donation link or micropayment wallet, you can skip steps 8 - 11.
We promise we’re almost done!
Step 12 - On the top menu, click Feeds.
Step 13 - Update the title for your feed if desired.
👉🚫Once your feed has been submitted to podcast apps, do not update the title or file name for your feed.🚫👈
⚡Pro-tip: Please make sure your differentiate the Title for your feeds when using the multiple-feed option.⚡
If you’re using a service such as Podtrac, Chartable or Podroll, add the prefix URL in the Enclosure Prefix URL field.
Utilize the following fields to manage the content accessible to your feed's audience.
Feed Episode Limit: Limit the number of episodes publicly available for listeners. If you want all episodes displayed, please leave this field blank.
Episode Publish Delay (aka Windowing): Delay the public release of your episode after publishing.
Feed Metadata Limit: You can optionally reduce the size of your RSS feed by trimming metadata from your oldest feed episodes. This many of your newest episodes will include all metadata, and older episodes will omit certain RSS fields. Leave this field blank to include all metadata on every episode.
Step 14 - Finally, select the audio format for your podcast and click Save!
🚨Please note that it is important that for your default feed, you select MP3, as this is the preferred audio spec of podcast apps. 🚨
Now that you have your new podcast you can publish an episode!
