How To Publish an Episode in Dovetail

Sometimes you may need to add a single episode to your series instead of several at once. Here’s the rundown on how to accomplish that in Dovetail:

Step 1 - Log in at id.prx.org using your username/email and password. Then select “Dovetail Podcasts” from the available options.

Alternatively, logging in at podcasts.dovetail.prx.org will also take you directly to the next step.

Step 2 - Next, choose your series from the list or the dropdown menu in the upper left corner of the dashboard.

Step 3 - Once you’ve selected your series, select “Episodes” from the options at the top of the page.

From the Episodes page, you can now select “Create Episode” to add an episode or select a previously created draft episode.

You will find these fields on the episode creation page. Any field on the page with a red asterisk is a mandatory field.

Step 4 - Fill in your episode's metadata. Once you’re finished, you can click “Create Draft” to create the draft, and save your progress.

Step 5 - Next, to add your episode's audio file select “Media Files” from the menu on the left.

Drag-and-drop the audio files or click on the segment window to select from a drive where the audio is saved or stored to upload the audio files based on your File Format Setting.

Once the files have processed, make sure to save your draft by clicking on the “Save” button in the upper right hand corner of the Media File screen. Your draft now has audio!

Step 6 - Return to the draft window on the episodes main tab to update your episode's status to scheduled or published to release your episodes.

Status: This dropdown menu offers the options “Draft” (work in progress; not public), “Scheduled” (scheduled to drop), and “Published” (dropped and out in the world).

Dropdate: In this field you can enter the date and time you’d like the episode to drop. If you are publishing an episode from an existing draft, this information will be automatically populated for you.

That’s it! You've got what it takes to publish an episode! If you have any questions that aren’t addressed in this guide, you can reach us at help@prx.org.
