What is a podcast?

Most simply (we hope) a podcast is is a digital file— audio or video— that’s available on demand, usually in a series or episodes which users can receive updated versions of on their device, automatically.

The mechanism through which listeners receive updates versions is called an RSS feed.

The term comes from a combination of the words iPod (a personal digital audio player made by Apple) and broadcasting.
