Sometimes your podcast journey will take you to another podcast hosting platform entirely. If that happens to be the case for you, we’ll be sad to see you go, but the following roadmap should make for a smooth transition from one hosting platform to another.

🛑 301 Redirects from one feed to another are permanent and can impact subscribers if not implemented properly. 🛑
Step One
At least 30 days before your transition date, reach out to podcast-support@prx.org with the following:
- Which hosting platform you’re transitioning to
- A target date for when you’d like to be live on that platform
- If you are transitioning ad marker content, please provide any platform specific formatting requirements
Step Two
Generate an ad-free version of your feed in Dovetail to import into your new host. Ensure that the import locked option is unchecked.
Step Three
Import your ad-free feed and ad markers into your new hosting platform. How to do this will vary, so please check the support documentation of your new host or reach out to their support team for additional details.
Step Four
Once the content has been imported, double-check the following metadata in the podcast feed generated by your new host.
- Number of episodes in the feed
- Episode GUIDs
- Publish date and time
- Episode titles
⚠️ To ensure that your listeners experience a seamless transition, it is extremely important that you make sure that all of your series and episode metadata matches between your public feed from Dovetail and the feed from your new host.
Step Five
Once you’ve confirmed that everything matches between your two feeds, provide your new public feed URL to podcast-support@prx.org so that we can initiate a 301 redirect from Dovetail to your new platform.
Please allow 3 business days to process redirect requests due to staff availability.
⚠️ It is your responsibility to provide PRX with a feed that is fully prepared for a redirect. Please ensure that all audio files, metadata, and ad markers have been correctly imported and verified on your new hosting platform before the redirect takes place.
⚠️ PRX is not responsible for missing audio, incorrect metadata, or ad markers that were not properly set up prior to the redirect.
Once PRX has confirmed that the redirect is complete:
- Validate your old Dovetail feed in Redirect Detective to confirm it’s pushing to the new url
- Check your accounts for Apple, Spotify, and other major apps to make sure all looks and sounds good and that the RSS Feed URL has updated to the new host’s feed URL
- Update any RSS feed URLs listed on your website
- Update the embeddable players on your website
- Download your Dovetail Metrics within 30 days of redirection. This data will not transfer to your new podcast host, so please ensure you’ve exported this data for your records.
